Prop list - Planning - A2 Media
We decided to use a phone because in our story to show that the girl had moved on from the boy we decided to show her texting him instead of showing him physically there as we believed this would leave it more for the audience to interpret instead of showing them exactly what was happening.
Guitar:
We decided to use a guitar because we wanted to show the how much the boy likes the girl by showing him writing a song for her, although he never plays it for her, he will write it for her. This would show how the boy likes the girl but is too scared/shy to tell her.

Music video literal understanding - Research - A2 Media
Definition:
A music video or song video
is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or
artistic purposes. Modern music videos
are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale
of music recordings.
Music videos vary in style from narrative
to artistic style, usually artistic videos have abstract or quirky lyrics to
match the video, these videos often don’t have an obvious story or meaning so
have to be interpreted by the viewer. Other videos such as narrative stories
have very obvious meanings and require no interpretation from the viewer.

Music consumption - Research - A2 Media
In the 1800’s, the consumption of music both through
listening and reading about started off through hard copies such as Records and
printed magazines that you had to buy in stores. The advance in technology
allowed for much smaller forms of music like CD’s in 1982 as opposed to the
larger records we had before. This then allowed for CD players, which became
portable which gave for wider uses other than record players that stayed at
home.
Radio’s also increased the music consumption as various
artists could be played on the radio for the public to listen to. This vastly
increased live performances and having artists perform in a studio for it to be
played on the radio. This had a huge influence of the global craze of music
that we enjoy today. The first radio broadcast was in 1920 and this started off
what is now a global success that has over 600 licensed station in the UK alone
and also over 45 million listeners a year.
The use of software such as I-tunes allowed for music to be
stored in large quantities on a computer to therefore be used on other devices.
This was a much more efficient device in comparison to the CD player as you
could only listen to one CD at a time, and most commonly, one artist. The
creation of I-pods allowed for music on the go and large quantities with the
best product being able to store up to around 40,000 songs. This was a huge
technological advance for the time as it allowed for the portable use of a wide
range of music at the touch of your fingers.
The rise of mobile devices allowing a platform for music has
globally increased our consumption of music of all genres. The global brand of
Youtube had its introduction in 2005, which meant the easy access of music
across the world. The increase of artists’ Vevo channel increased their
population and also music consumption. The free access that the world has vastly
increased the music dominance in the market. Youtube is now becoming one of the
largest consumer websites with some videos reaching over a billion views and
others consistently reaching hundreds of millions.
Live concerts are starting to become the next step up of
music consumption as it allows for a much greater experience in most cases. The
live experience creates a whole new consumption process that cant be
replicated, this does cause a lot more money to be input into the music media
but it’s a whole new process that not everyone can experience.
Music consumption is a very important factor towards the
music business and is the reason why it is as popular as it is today. The
consumption has changed massively over the years going from large vinyls too
much smaller portable music players. The consumption of music has changed over
time and allowed for a much wider audience to be able to purchase it across
many different platforms. These platforms therefore became updated and more
advanced which therefore improved the music consumption of today.

Special effects research - Research - A2 Media
There are many different types of special effects
that are used in music videos that make the video a lot more interesting and it
also creates different emotions within the artist so they can show themselves
to the audience. The definition of special effects is an impression made for
films, camerawork, television, computer graphics etc. that are used that shows
certain events in a story. CGI is a information technology company that is
specialized in special effects technologies. This company gives control to
certain filmmakers so the special effects are delivered to those filmmakers
securely. CGI also has delivered many types of visual effects techniques that
has been using till now.
Green Screen
There is a special effect that has been used in
green screen known as Chroma keying which gives a special techniques for
layering two images or videos together depending on color tones. This effect
mostly has been used in newscasting, video game industries etc. and it has
mostly used to get rid of the background from photos or videos.

Analysis of previous students work - Maroon 5 - Research - A2 Media
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkJXibuJYF0
The use of high key and low key lighting to show different
moods from how it can be a negative time through low key lighting to then being
a positive time with high key lighting. There is very little use of high key
lighting which shows the general outline of the video and how there is very little
positive things happening.
The setting as well is also relevant to the song and the key
themes that the music video wants to suggest which is about violence and crime.
The dark setting of back roads and buildings gives this image across to make
the video more realistic and appeal to the audience.
The make-up used is very little as the video is supposed to
come across as gritty and about real life so excess make-up would be
unnecessary. They do use make-up for when the boy is beaten up which is very realistic
and not over the top and excessive. The costumes that our used are very true to
real life and look like something that regular teenagers would wear, this
emphasises the image of real life and what happens to some people on a day to
day basis.
Character positioning as well is also strong throughout the
video as there isn’t a point where characters are cut out or are blocking a
shot that we need to see. The story of the video is therefore a lot clearer as
we can see in every scene what is happening and then how the story is
progressing.
The facial expressions throughout are very bleak and simple,
this shows the theme of violence and crime and how it isn’t a positive thing.
This is very similar throughout even as the story changes, although there is the
occasional expression of sadness as the character realises what he has done and
the consequences he now has to deal with.
The storyline fits to the song about a boy who gets beaten
up and then works hard to be able to defend himself from it happening again and
also from the view of the bullies as they realise what they have caused. This
works with the song being called “Stuck” as it could be about being stuck in
two minds about what to do in certain situations and how to overcome them.
The editing for this video is smooth which shows a clear
storyline and makes it easy to follow. The clips used as well all flow together
seamlessly to create a storyline which we can relate to. The transitions between scenes happen
instantly which makes the video more like real life as how there is no time to
wait and everything happens so fast.
There is a wide variety of camera angles used such as
extreme close-ups to show the emotions of the characters so we can see and
understand how they are feeling. Close-ups are also used to show different
props such as a spray can and hand tape
which give a further insight into what the character is like, spray can for
crime and tape for fighting. The use of
medium shots shows body language and how characters act.
